Work your tail off in HSJul 06 2004Political Science
Work your tail off in HS. The average incoming GPA and SAT here are on the rise. For my class, the average GPA was 4.1 and it only increased this year. Do extracurricular activities that interest you. Do a few and work hard at them. High achievers in a few acitivities are looked at in a more positive light than those who pad their resume.
Find an angle about your personality and extracurricular activitiesJun 17 2004English
Find an angle about your personality and extracurricular activities that's different and go with it. I had a great history teacher who got me involved with some volunteer work in archaeology in high school, so I totally trumped that up. Then I mentioned getting awards in my AP US History class, the county history fair, my World History class, and a scholarship for some work I did compiling entries in a 19th century diary from a local plantation. I didn't even really consider being a history major, but that doesn't matter when you're just trying to get in. Don't lie, but don't be afraid to put down all the interesting things you've done. On the other hand, you have to balance it so it's not too one-sided... I also was involved with sports and volunteer activities, as well as academic honor socities. Show how well-rounded you are, they like that. And most importantly, spend lots of time on the essay questions. Those are vital.
